OUR MISSION

To keep San Francisco communities healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are a student-run organization working to strengthen San Francisco communities and promote safe pandemic practices. We provide internship positions to Bay Area students, giving them the opportunity to learn important business skills while taking an active role in their community.

OUR HISTORY

Our story began on March 16th, 2020, the day the San Francisco Shelter in Place order went out, instructing residents to stay home for the next three weeks in an effort to curb the rapid spread of COVID-19. As those three weeks quickly turned into months, our founders Miriam Streicker-Hirt, Alex Lewis, and Kinga Csikszentmihalyi began to wonder if there was more that they could be doing to help San Franciscans stay safe and healthy, while still feeling connected to their community.

APRIL 26th

On April 26th the trio founded SF Strong, an organization dedicated to giving San Francisco residents the accurate COVID-19 information that they need to stay safe during the pandemic.

We are a group of San Francisco college and high school students with a passion for keeping our community safe. Because of the pandemic, many of us missed graduations, were sent home from colleges around the country, and lost internship opportunities. SF Strong provided a way for us to bring community and safety to San Francisco, while forming a community of our own. We are completely intern-run, and we're always looking for new, passionate students to join our team.

We distribute posters around the city because we know how easy it can be to feel alone during the pandemic. We want to make sure that every San Francisco resident feels like the San Francisco community is looking out for them. We distribute factual, trust worthy and up-to-date COVID-19 information through our website and social media because we know how disorienting it can be to be surrounded by confusing and contradictory information.

FIRST POSTER COMPETITION

The first SF Strong poster competition is launched, with artists from around the city designing posters to help inform residents on safe pandemic practices.

COMPETITION ENDS

On August 21st, the poster competition ends and the amazing winners are announced.

Over the last year, our organization has grown and changed a lot, and we can't wait to see what happens next. No matter what happens, our goals remain the same: we remain committed to providing accurate and up-to-date COVID-19 information to San Francisco residents, while working to help residents feel a little more connected to one another at the very time that the pandemic makes connection most difficult.

The three new SF Strong posters are created by local student artists, and our team begins to distribute them around the city.
